Exploring Your Sexual Wellbeing

In the past few years, the term 'sexual wellness' has become popular in articles and social media platforms. However, many people are still unsure of what it means and why it's significant.

Taking care of our sexual health is just as important as taking care of our overall well-being. It involves many different aspects, such as self-acceptance and the freedom to express and explore our desires. Despite being a long-standing taboo, it's time to shed light on the importance of exploring our sexuality and the empowerment it brings.

Start with Self-Acceptance

Figuring out what we want, what we're into, and what we're not can be tough for a lot of us. It means accepting ourselves without feeling bad or embarrassed and thinking about the experiences and beliefs that have shaped our sexualities. But it's an important step towards feeling good about ourselves and being healthy overall. We have got to recognise and celebrate our desires as totally normal and important. Have you seen all the TikTok creators talking about sexual exploration? They're trying to spread the message that there's nothing wrong with exploring your sexuality, whether it's on your own or with someone else. It's important to remember that there's no shame in being curious and learning more about yourself!

Educating Yourself

It’s important to know about sexual education for a lot of reasons. It helps you take care of yourself and helps you figure things out about your own body. The key things you can learn about are topics surrounding consent, different forms of contraception and how to avoid STIs. There are lots of resources online that can help you out, and as previously mentioned TikTok is one of the main social channels spreading the word. There are so many myths out there about our bodies and sexuality, but it's important to know the truth and not believe everything we hear. This makes it even more important to dispel those myths and learn for ourselves. Mika Simmons creator of "The Happy Vagina" is a key person in this conversation, as she talks on topics from reclaiming your sexuality to debunking myths.

Owning Your Sexuality

It's disappointing that even in 2023, female sexuality is still considered taboo. Society seems to have trouble accepting women who take control of their sexual expression. The male gaze has influenced our perception of sex and feminine sensuality, making us desensitised to it. This has become so deeply ingrained in our culture that it's challenging to break away from these harmful ideologies. We need to take back that control.
